What is Speech and Language Therapy?

Speech and language therapy is a tailor made programme, advice or therapy designed to help your child's speech and language development and/or their communication.

All state registered speech and language therapists have obtained a degree or honours degree incorporating speech and language pathology and therapy. They are specialists in communication disorders, who work to assess and diagnose speech and language disorders.

Following assessment and diagnosis, it may be appropriate for the therapist to develop a programme of care. This may be in the form of onward referrals, support and advice, home programmes, individual therapy sessions, or a combination of the above.
